Setting the Scene
Capturing the essence of a brand is more than just snapping a few pictures. It’s about telling a story, setting the right mood, and making sure everything from the lighting to the tiniest prop-works in harmony. Recently, we had the chance to shoot marketing material for Rocky Talkies as they gear up to break into the hunting and fishing markets. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at how it all came together.
The Studio Session
The shoot took place in my studio, where we set out to create striking product images that truly showcase the ruggedness of Rocky Talkies gear. We played around with lighting setups, shifting reflectors and tweaking angles until everything looked just right. It was all about capturing the adventure-packed essence of the brand. We wanted each shot to feel like it belonged in the wild, even though we were working in a controlled studio environment.
The Team
No shoot is complete without an all-star crew. Our Creative Director steered the vision, ensuring each image aligned with Rocky Talkies' brand identity. Jo, our incredible prop stylist, worked her magic, carefully selecting and placing elements that brought out the tough, outdoorsy spirit of the products. Max and I handled the cameras, testing different compositions and making quick adjustments on the fly. The teamwork was seamless, with everyone bringing their expertise to the table to make sure we nailed every shot.
The Process
Studio shoots are a mix of precision and experimentation. We tested different lighting techniques to highlight textures and durability, played with shadows for dramatic effect, and adjusted props to create the perfect composition. Every little tweak made a difference. There were moments of trial and error, a few laughs when things didn’t go as planned, and a lot of small victories when we finally got that perfect shot. It’s a process that requires patience, creativity, and an eye for detail, but that’s what makes it exciting.
Behind the Scenes
Of course, I couldn’t resist snapping some behind-the-scenes shots throughout the day. There’s something fun about capturing the messy, in-between moments, the tangled cords, the impromptu problem-solving, and the sheer energy of a shoot coming to life. I’ll be sharing those along with the final images, so you can see how everything transformed from setup to polished product shots.
Final Thoughts
Shooting for Rocky Talkies was an absolute blast. Their brand is all about adventure, and we wanted to make sure that energy came through in every frame. It was a reminder that great photography isn’t just about the final image, it’s about the collaboration, the creative process, and the little details that make everything click. Stay tuned for more behind-the-scenes peeks at future projects!
